About the scanner

If you found EA-Accessibility-Scanner in your logs, this page explains what it is. It is the free accessibility check on edisadilovic.com, run by me, Edis Adilovic, an accessibility consultant in Denmark. The scanner only visits a website when a person asks for a check of it on the check page.

How to recognise it

Every request carries this text in the User-Agent header:

  • EA-Accessibility-Scanner/1.0 (+https://edisadilovic.com/en/check-your-website/scanner-bot/)

Pages are opened in an ordinary Chrome browser, so the full User-Agent starts with Chrome's own text and ends with the text above. That way pages look the way they do for people, which an accessibility check needs.

Where it comes from

All requests come from one IPv4 address, used only by the scanner: 78.47.228.220 (Hetzner, Germany). The address is also available as plain text: ips.txt.

How much it fetches

  • Only when a person asks for a check. It never crawls on its own.
  • At most five pages per check, opened one at a time.
  • At most one check of the same website per day.
  • A check lasts at most three minutes.
  • It reads robots.txt and the sitemap to choose the pages.
  • It does not fill in or send forms, buy anything or log in.

Keep it out

Add these two lines to your robots.txt and the scanner will not check your website:

  • User-agent: EA-Accessibility-Scanner
  • Disallow: /

You can also close only some pages, for example Disallow: /cart. The scanner reads robots.txt before every check and follows the rules that name it. A rule for all bots (User-agent: *) does not stop it, because every check is requested by a person who wants to know whether the website works for disabled people.

Let it in

If your website sits behind bot protection, it may stop the scanner and the check fails. Ask whoever runs your hosting or bot protection to allow requests from 78.47.228.220 with EA-Accessibility-Scanner in the User-Agent. Most services, Cloudflare included, can allow a single IP address.
